ISLAMABAD, February 4: The nation would observe Day of Solidarity with Kashmiris today (Friday) to highlight their cause and the need for resolution of the longstanding dispute as per wishes of Kashmiri people.
It will be a public holiday and rallies, public meetings, functions and seminars would be held in the length and breadth of the country and Azad Kashmir to draw attention of the world community towards the plight of Kashmiris.
Nation-wide one minute silence would be observed at 10.00 a.m. to honour Kashmiri martyrs. ‘Human Chains’ at Kohala Bridge, Mangla Bridge and other points linking Pakistan and Azad Kashmir would be formed, which would be participated, among others, by Senators, Members of the National and Provincial Assemblies, politicians, senior officials and notables. Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made elaborate arrangements to highlight different aspects of Kashmir issue including briefing session for foreign missions in Islamabad, reception for Pakistanis and Kashmiris at Pakistani missions abroad, seminars, photo exhibitions and displaying of videos with emphasis on human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir. On this occasion, ration packages would be distributed among Kashmiri refugee families on behalf of people of Pakistan. Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television have arranged day long programmes featuring different dimensions of the Kashmir issue, trampling of human rights by India in Occupied Kashmir and interviews of important personalities. Pakistan Sports Board would also be organizing competitions of important games at national and regional level.-Sabah
