In his farewell speech the outgoing Army chief had asked the state institutions to realise on concentrating more on solving three grave crises namely extremism,sectarianism and corruption that confront the country today.The question is:would the political government give a free hand to the concerned state institutions to solve these issues?To put this question in another way,are the key institutions like the FIA,NAB,FBR etc etc totally free and do they enjoy freedom of action ?The answer to this question is a big NO.Frankly speaking ,the mother of all problems that this country faces is that of governance.Our political leaders talk a lot about good governance but it is no more than a glib talk.They don’t believe in the directive of the founder of the nation that the civil servants should be answerable only to the law of the land and they should care more for the interest of the state rather than implementing illegal orders of the sitting government which is always transitory in nature.
POSTSCRIPT: The politicians in this country seldom get convicted even if they are involved in heinous criminal and corruption cases—–thanks to the provision of benefit of the doubt frequently given by the courts to the accused if there is even a slight lacuna in the prosecution case.The politicians of this country have proved themselves to be very smart.First of all they removed all the teeth of the police and the civil service making them subservient to the sitting government instead of the law of the land and state.Once that was done it wasn’t then difficult for them to make them dance to their tune.Small wonder many high profile criminal cases involving leading politicians of the country could not reach their logical conclusion due to one reason or the other.
