It was heartening that the month of Ramadan started on the same day in the entire country this year after a long time. Let us hope that Eid-ul-fitr would also be celebrated on the same day. No change was, however, noted in the attitude of traders and shopkeepers who have been selling the consumer goods, particularly, those edibles whose consumption increases manifold during the month of fasting at exorbitant rates. The district administration and the so-called Food Authority in the federal capital have been conspicuous by their absence . They have left the poor consumers at the mercy of greedy shopkeepers whose appetite for making a quick buck seems to be insatiable. Half of the Ramadan is almost over and one hasn’t seen any hoarder of essential commodities arrested or any godown laden with the hoarded goods sealed by the competent authority which means the hoarders and the black marketers have been having a field day up till now. When will the administration wake up from its deep slumber? Is it sleeping or is it in league with them?
Islamabad’s traffic is in a complete mess. Those heavy vehicles which cross it on their way to other destinations make the confusion on the roads of the federal capital worse confounded. Time has certainly come when a ring road is constructed around the federal capital for those heavy vehicles which cross Islamabad’s territory on their journey else where. They should never be permitted to enter the federal capital. This would take off the traffic pressure considerably from Islamabad’s roads. The traffic police should prepare a time schedule for those heavy trucks which have to come to Islamabad exclusively in such a manner that they enter and leave the federal only between 11pm and 5pm.
