The holy month of Ramadhan is almost over. As usual, the greedy traders and shopkeepers dealing in edibles made a quick buck by selling them at a price not within the reach of the common man. The administration was no where visible. Had it intervened in the matter, the prices of the essential commodities could have been kept under control. The elite is least bothered about the price issue of the consumer goods as it can afford to buy consumer goods on any price fixed by the traders. It is the common man, the teeming millions, who don’t know where their next meal would come from , who are worried about it as they have to feed many mouths within a fixed salary . They are an unlucky lot as nobody speaks for them . They are neither represented in parliament nor the administration nurse any soft corner for them in its heart.
Since all the governments, whether they were in the centre or in the provinces, were at their last leg during Ramadan quite busy in girding up their loins for the new elections, it seems increase in the price index of edibles escaped their attention as they did not give due attention to this vital issue which had a direct bearing on the every day life of the common man who was mercilessly exploited economically by the trading community.
All roads these days lead to the Election Commission. Soon after Eid , the election campaign would get into the top gear. As is the political tradition in this country, new election alliances would be created. Political allies of yesterday would become political foes and vice versa as there is no last word in politics in this country, particularly. In short, all is set for the political drama which would keep the national and international media engaged for a long time.
