ISLAMABAD, September 28: President Arif Alvi on Thursday directed Karachi’s electric supplier K-Electric to take all possible measures to meet the electricity requirements of the city.
Talking to a delegation of K-Electric who called on him here in Islamabad, the president said that all necessary measures should be taken to save people of Karachi from the inconvenience of undue load-shedding.
The K-Electric delegation comprising Chairman, K-Electric Tayyab Tareen, CEO Moonis Alvi and Chief Generation & Transmission Officer Dele Sinkler briefed the President on the electricity requirements of the city and steps being taken to improve the system as per requirement.
The president stressed that in addition to power generation attention should also be paid to improve the power transmission system, decreasing the line losses and curbing theft of electricity for the provision of uninterrupted supply of electricity to domestic and commercial consumers, as it is one of the priorities of the government.
It is pertinent to note here that National Electric Power Regulatory Authority on Thursday imposed a fine of Rs. 5 Million on Karachi’s electric supplier K-Electric Limited on “account of its failure to provide reliable power supply to consumers of Karachi on a nondiscriminatory basis”,.
According to the statement released by NEPRA, K-Electric Limited was fined due to non-compliance of performance standards, distribution code and direction of the authority regarding provision of electricity to all consumers without any discrimination. -DNA
