The government must get through whatever legislative business it has in its mind in parliament as without required legislation it won’t be possible for it to translate into reality its political manifesto for the welfare of the common man. This task is, by no means, an easy one as the opposition would see to it that the proposed legislation of the PTI is hamstrung . How does the government get round this problem will be interesting to watch!
A government which does not have the required numerical strength necessary to pass any legislation is very unfortunate. Besides falling a victim to the political blackmail of its political allies, time and again, it also has to kowtow to the opposition to get even minor things done . The government is under tremendous pressure from both the MQM and the Q league to give them more ministries which means the size of the federal cabinet which is already bloated would swell further.
Only that political party is in a position to implement its election manifesto, lock, stock and barrel to which the electorate has given an absolute majority . Governments cobbled out of hung parliaments are good for nothing as they, more often than not, have to resort to making compromises. At the end of the day they fail to deliver. In our recent history only Z. A?Bhutto enjoyed absolute majority in parliament which started functioning after the dismemberment of Pakistan in 1971. Had he tried, he could have implemented the political manifesto of his party hook, line and sinker as he was in a position to do so without the crutches of any other political party at that time. That he couldn’t avail of that opportunity is another story which will be told later.
