Naom Chomsky is virtually a household name almost all over the world. It is so because of the heroic consistency with which he has championed the causes of the poor and the helpless nations that have been brutalized and subjugated by the U.S, the great country that likes to dub itself as the flag-bearer of democratic values and human rights.
His crusade against the U.S imperialism can best be understood when you remember what he once said about the American love of liberties.
“Uncle Sam talks a lot about its defense of the four great freedoms—-namely the freedom of speech, the freedom of faith, the freedom to do business and the freedom of choice. What it seldom likes to mention is the passion with which it has been defending its freedom to rob the other nations of their resources and their freedoms”.
These are devastating words. Another great socio-scientist of the World who talks the same language is Robert Fisk whose voluminous book “The Great War For Civilization” can be declared as a ‘must read’ for those who want to understand the motives and the mindset that power most of the imperial adventures on the earth.
The other day I happened to read a ‘Robert Fisk’ masterpiece in The Independent, which was headlined: “Clinton’s $ 33 million raid on Pakistan shows that, in the end, hypocrisy will win”.
The article is about the $ 33 million cut that has been imposed on the aid to Pakistan as a punishment for awarding 33-year sentence to a U.S paid ‘humanitarian’ who had aided Washington to catch an enemy, and to murder him in cold blood without a trial and without going through the civilized procedures of the rule of law.
“Quite clearly Dr. Shakeel Afridi was doing a great service to mankind by helping the U.S killers to reach an ‘accused’ with their guns blazing. Thus he deserved a fair trial. As for Osama Bin Laden, he didn’t deserve even a trial— whether fair or unfair. Hypocrisy thy name is America!”
