The common man of this country wants to know how much money stands generated for the construction of Bhasha dam? The former CJP had opened a special fund for the purpose. Tongues wag that some of the corrupt persons who are under investigation of the NAB or undergoing trial in mega corruption cases have deposited the looted amount or have agreed to pay it in instalments. The common man is, however, in the dark as to the total amount recovered from them. He asks: why don’t the government start clearing its circular debt with this recovered amount instead of increasing the gas and fuel prices and burdening the already financially crippled poor of the country?
The common man fails to understand as to why the faces of the arrested lawyers in the recent Lahore episode were shown on the TV recently with their faces wrapped with cloth as they were being taken to the courts by the police. They should hang their heads in shame as they have damaged government property worth crores of rupees. Not only should they be asked to pay this money from their pocket, they must get their just deserts also, otherwise, possibility of recurrence of such incidents cannot be ruled out altogether in future as they have become too big for their boots.
The consensus public opinion is that General Musharraf has been convicted in post-haste and condemned unheard and there is a strong possibility that the apex court might remand his case back for a de novo trial on this very point. Understandably the said court verdict has not gone well with the Establishment as is evident from the sharp reaction from the ISPR.
