The main reason whythere is a lack of good governance in the country is that the problems of the common man are not being solved at his doorstep. Experience of hindsight tells us that since 1947 every government that has come into power in this country had promised that it will strengthen local government institutions but that promise was never translated into reality by any one of them with the result that the problems of the common man are multiplying by the day.
It is not difficult to understand as to why this inordinate delete has occurred in the matter. The fact of the matter is that our elected members of assemblies are moreinterested in the politics of district level instead of concentrating on the legislative businesswhich should be their main concern. They in their own wisdom believe that by doing so they can increase their vote bank
The cumulative effect of indifference of the governments to strengthen local Bodies is that the humdrum issues of the common man remain unattended .thus bringing a bad name to the government in power. It is a pity that not a single government has evolvedits local government institutions commensurate with the true spirit of 1973 Constitution.
