President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during an online working meeting on Monday signed a Decree on the dispatch of Turkmen delegation led by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov to Moscow on February 21-22. During the visit, Foreign Minister Meredov will hold talks at the Russian Foreign Ministry, as well as other Russian government agencies. The purpose of these meetings is to exchange views on a set of issues of further development of Turkmen-Russian relations and determine their long-term prospects. Addressing Meredov during the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said one of the priorities of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy is comprehensive development of the strategic partnership with Russia. The Turkmen Leader said special attention should be paid to bilateral political contacts, organization of reciprocal visits at the state, parliamentary and governmental levels and joint political forums. In this regard, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed Meredov to discuss in Moscow issues related to the preparation and holding of the Sixth Caspian Summit in Turkmenistan this year, and consider together with Russian colleagues the program and agenda of the Central Asia-Russia Parliamentary Forum at the level of heads of parliaments, that will be first held in Ashgabat in May this year.
The Head of State also instructed to discuss the holding of Co-Chairs of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission in the second half of this year in order to intensively develop bilateral trade, ensure the implementation of joint projects in key segments of the economy and consistently intensify scientific, educational and cultural relations between the countries.
President Berdimuhamedov also addressed instructions to Meredov to develop a program of events to mark the 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Russia. Russia is one of the first states that recognized Turkmenistan’s independence and established diplomatic relations. April 8 this year will mark the 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Russia.
