LAHORE, March 18: The Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Business Network Pakistan held its meeting on Friday to unveil its business engagement strategy and announced formation of private sector companies-led Executive Committee (EC) under the aegis of National SUN Secretariat – Ministry of Planning, Development and Reforms and co-conveners United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), and Micronutrient Initiative (MI).
Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, Senior Minister for Labor and Human Resource and Planning and Development Government of Punjab, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Minister highlighted that improvement of nutrition in Pakistan was not possible until businesses offered innovative solutions to nutritious foods and improved solution for dietary behavior patterns.
He was of the view that stunting, wasting and micronutrient deficiencies are widespread. This situation has a damaging impact on the survival, growth, development and productivity of pre-school children and pregnant women in particular. He emphasized for more collaborated ventures among Public-Private Sector Organizations, Nutrition Development Partners including UN agencies, INGOs and donors, to create enabling environment for encouraging innovations and appropriate solutions to scaling up nutrition.-PR
