LONDON, March 18: Rancho Cordova-based Internet Patents Corp. reported it lost $2.7 million in 2012 and $667,000 in the fourth quarter of the year. The company has not shown any revenue.
Comparisons to the previous year are not relevant because Internet Patents Corp. is the successor company to InsWeb, which was sold late in 2011. Internet Patents (NASDAQ: PTNT) defends the patent rights of InsWeb, a Rancho Cordova insurance portal that was launched in 1995. Internet Patents was spun off as a successor company after InsWeb founder Hussein Enan sold the company to Bankrate.com for $64 million at the end of 2011. Enan launched Internet Patents as InsWeb was sold, and he is now its CEO. In January, Internet Patents reported to the Securities and Exchange Commission that it filed patent infringement lawsuits Dec. 21 against Tree.com Inc. and Quinstreet Inc.-DNA
