Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev participated in a regular meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry reported that during the meeting, heads of delegations discussed the preparation for the SCO Council of Heads of State session and issues concerning the Organization’s expansion, in particular, the procedure of admitting the Islamic Republic of Iran as a full SCO member. The parties also exchanged views on pressing regional and international issues.
In his speech the Kyrgyz foreign minister stressed the need to implement the SCO Heads of State Decision on improvement of the mechanism for countering security challenges and threats to SCO member states taking into account relevant initiatives of all SCO states, including the initiative of the Kyrgyz Republic to establish a Center for countering international organized crime in Bishkek.
In order to create favorable conditions and increase the transit potential of the region, the Kyrgyz side noted the importance of intensifying cooperation of SCO member states based on previously adopted documents in this area. In this context, Jeenbek Kulubaev informed that in July this year Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov signed a decree “On creation of a complex system of introduction of digital green transit corridors through the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic to third countries”.
In addition, Kulubaev asked partners to support international initiatives of Kyrgyzstan, including the republic’s candidacy to the UN Human Rights Council for the period 2023-2025.
During the event, Uzbek President Mirziyoyev met with heads of delegations of SCO member states. The Uzbek leader outlined priority directions in the activities of the country’s chairmanship, in particular he noted that more than 70 events were organized, and also drew attention to the need to deepen under present conditions multilateral interaction among SCO member states and implementation of further tasks for the development of the Organization.
Following the meeting, the sides signed a number of decisions of the SCO Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs on further development of cooperation within the Organization.
In addition, FM Kulubaev held a number of bilateral meetings as part of the event. – Kabar
