President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation of the Russian Federation headed by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, participating in the events of the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in our capital.
During the conversation, topical issues included in the agenda of the Uzbek-Russian relations of strategic partnership and alliance were discussed in detail.
Special attention was paid to the situation in the region and aspects of interaction within the framework of international structures, including preparations for the SCO summit.
At the beginning of the conversation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs conveyed to the leader of Uzbekistan sincere greetings and warm wishes from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
At the meeting, the dynamic development of multifaceted practical cooperation between the two countries observed in recent years was noted with particular satisfaction.
The volumes of mutual trade are growing steadily at high rates. Since the beginning of the year, the trade turnover has increased by 32 percent.
As part of the activities of the joint Project Office, it is planned to implement about 40 large investment projects by the end of the year.
Fruitful work is being carried out through interregional contacts and cultural and humanitarian exchange. Over the past few years, 12 leading Russian universities have been launched in Uzbekistan.
An exchange of views took place on the prospects for regional cooperation, including in the “Central Asia – Russia” format. Particular attention was paid to issues of expanding assistance to the peaceful settlement and socio-economic reconstruction of Afghanistan.
