PESHAWAR, January 25: The number of militants killed in latest air strikes by fighter jets in North Waziristan tribal region rose to 17, army said.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the airstrikes were carried out on militant hideouts in Datta Khel and Shawal areas of the restive tribal agency.
The strike comes day after four Taliban militants launched a deadly attack on Bacha Khan University in Charsadda, leaving 21 students and 2 staff members dead. The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack. DG ISPR Lt-Gen Asim Bajwa told media in Peshawar that five facilitators of the terrorist attack were apprehended and raids were being conducted to arrest another, his wife and niece. Pakistan has intensified its efforts against militants in tribal areas. – NNI
