The new Army chief is in the saddle now. The outgoing Army chief has written a golden chapter in the history of the armed forces of Pakistan. He was every inch a soldier and preferred to remain among his jawans in bunkers even on occasions like Eid when people like to remain among their near and dear ones. He was not a man of this world. He shunned materialism. He would have easily stayed as army chief for a year or two more. He would have easily become Field Marshal——a post he richly deserved. Every good thing comes to an end one day. Though General Rahel Shareef would no longer be seen quite often on the telly now but he will always remain in the heart and memory of all patriotic Pakistanis who hope that his successor would not make them feel his absence. By and large, his decision to call it a day on its appointed time and refuse extension in his tenure has been appreciated by all and sundry in this country.
The foremost task of the new army chief should be to ensure smooth flow of merchandise on all the roads in the country that lead to Gwadar as India would try to stymie traffic of foreign goods on these roads. New Delhi understands that gone are the days of 1971. Pakistan today is invincible. The Hindus excel in the art of conspiracy and propaganda and they will use their expertise in these two domains to create trouble for us
POSTSCRIPT: Let us hope that after its dismal performance against Kiwis,Pakistani cricket team would make amends for it in their three test matches against the Aussies.
