Bilawal has declared himself to be the next prime minister of Pakistan. He has also let it be known that his father is going to be the next president of Pakistan. Is he really sure that the 2018 elections are going to be swept by the PPP? This claim of his cannot be taken without a pinch of salt for a variety of reasons. First, his party has a lot to live down. Its performance in office between 2008 and 2013 left much to be desired. Second, even in Sind the PPP government hasn’t fared well up till now from 2008 onward both under Qaim Ali Shah as well as under his successor. Stories of rampant corruption in that province where the PPP has been ruling by exploiting the Sind card are rife that the man in the street is raising accusing finger even at the Sind Public Service Commission which was, relatively speaking, considered to be above board till recently. It is being alleged that one has to pay money for becoming its member and then the said Commission sells the vacancies in the government departments to the highest bidder.
This being the position doesn’t Bilawal’s claim that he and his father are going to occupy the two most important positions in the government amount to a wishful thinking?
POSTSCRIPT: The well wishers of this country are raising their eyebrows over the recent decision of the government that if 3 percent tax was paid on the cost of houses built with black money no further questions would be asked from the owners of these houses about the source of money with which they have constructed these houses. Doesn’t it amount o putting a premium on corruption? they ask.
