Hopefully, by the time these lines see the light of day the new tenant of the Governor House Peshawar would have taken over.Sardar Mehtab Abbasi,no doubt, was an excellent administrator who had proved his worth both as CM KPK as well as the Governor of the same province but since he is basically a politician who may be wanting to contest polls during next general election or,as someone rightly hinted, might be nursing a desire to become next chairman of the senate—–a Post which he richly deserves, his decision to hang his gloves as Governor KPK was quite understandable.Let us hope that rumour that the reason behind his decision to call it quits was that he had developed some policy differences in the matter of FATA affairs with the government turns out to be false.
For his successor-in-office,the job is not going to be all beer and skittles. As the army chief had,a few days back, very rightly pointed out that the military operation in Waziristan has now entered into its most difficult phase, which is the rehabilitation of the IDPs,the new Governor would be having a lot on his hands. Not only he has to revitalise the political administrative system of the FATA,which gyrates round the political agents and the tribal chieftains for running the day to day affairs of the tribal area which has been badly bruised after the nine-eleven when everything had gone topsy-turvy in the FATA,he has to ensure the quality of developmental projects in the tribal belt.Besides,he has to very carefully handle the clamour in some political quarters for the administrative reforms in the tribal belt. There are many experts on the tribal area who feel that, whatever reforms the government has in its mind, should first of all be discussed threadbare with all the stakeholders of FATA and after taking them into confidence should be executed in an incremental manner instead of rushing things because of the peculiar geographical terrain of FATA which is unique of its kind in the world.
