All good things come to an end one day. This is immutable law of nature. Debonair Habib, heart throb of millions of cine goers of this country lost battle with brain hemorrhage and joined the great majority last Thursday. Habib was keeping frail health for the last couple of years.
He was introduced to the film industry by the famous Lollywood film director Luqman who gave him a break in his film Lakthe Jigar in 1956 and after that he never looked back. His films clicked at the box office one after the other and very soon he became a front line film hero of Pakistani film industry. This, however, did no go into his head and he remained a humble person till his last breath. His notable films included Devdas, Aadmi, Khandan, Ayaz, Ashiana, street 77 and Aulad. His performance in Devdas impressed Dilip Kumar who congratulated him on his superb acting in that film.
Habib was the most sought after film hero in the decades of 1950, 1960 and even in 1970. He worked in both urdu and Panjabi films. He married with the famous heroine Naghma but unfortunately their marriage could not succeed. Habib was a sober actor and he himself voluntarily stopped working in new films which he thought were spreading vulgarity in the society though till his end he was hopeful that good old days would return soon and Lollywood would once again start producing the same type of quality films which were once used to be its hallmark between 1948 and 1970. Habib had taken fancy to working in the TV serials, lately, and seems to be enjoying acting on the mini-screen till he joined his Maker. The hero of Pakistani Devdas, Habib, Alas, is no more today and Lollywood would certainly be poorer without him. May his soul rest in peace. Ameen. Actors like him are a rare commodity and they are born once in blue moon.
